Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, in his 77th year.
Gerry was a long time employee of Bell Canada for 37 years. His career began in Orillia/Barrie area. He was transferred to Kitchener in 1972, working in Guelph, Kitchener and Galt as well as three years in Saudi Arabia with B.C.I. He retired from London in 1985. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus, Barrie and a member of The Telephone Pioneers and the Cardiac Fitness Association.
Much loved husband of Muriel (Alyson) La Plante for over 23 years. Loved by his daughter Mary Jane Leighton and his son Stephen La Plante. Beloved grandfather to Carolyn Leighton-Hilborn (Kyle), Scott Leighton, and Kelsey La Plante. Deeply loved by his elder brother Harold La Plante of Newmarket and his sister Mary Fran Brunt (Phil) of Orillia. Sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Alva La Plante and Cathy La Plante both of Barrie and his brothers-in-law; Joe Brunatti of Grimsby, Roy Allison (Margaret) of Oshawa, and Ron Allison (Beulah) of Veteran AB.
Predeceased by his parents Edward and Veronica La Plante, brothers; William, Donald, Peter, Patrick, and Leo La Plante (in infancy), his sister Imelda Brunatti, and his first wife Betty (nee Hook).
Friends are invited to share their memories of Gerry with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held at 8:15 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis RC Church, 49 Blueridge Ave., Kitchener on Thursday, October 25 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cornelius J. OMahony as Celebrant. Interment will take place at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener.
