Obituary of Eric Lavender

<h1>Eric Lavender</h1> Passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario at the age of 67. Much loved husband of Anne for 29 years and beloved father of Robert and Katherine (John Eardley). He was also the doting and very proud grandfather of Carter McIver. Eric is survived by his sisters Maureen Nash and Geraldine White and his brother-in-law John White, as well as nieces Julie and Sarah, and nephews Andrew, David and James and their families, all in England. Eric was predeceased by his brother-in-law Tom Nash. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Helen Leighton (Andrew Maxwell) and their children Alexander, Nicholas and Emily, and by his brother-in-law, Stephen Leighton, all in Mississauga. Eric was born in England and apprenticed as a Toolmaker at the British Aircraft Corporation in the UK. He then worked in Australia for 2 years before immigrating to Canada in 1967. He lived in Montreal and worked in the manufacturing and aerospace industries for many years. His work provided opportunities for travel abroad, including Indonesia, China, Russia and many European countries. Since moving to Kitchener in 1997 Eric worked for MD Robotics in Brampton, Astrium in the UK, and COM DEV in Cambridge. Eric's family thanks Dr. Janet MacEachern and the great nursing staff at the Regional Cancer Centre, the wonderfully accommodating ER staff and the truly amazing 6th floor nursing staff who gently and patiently guided us all through this difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, October 20 from 7 to 9 pm and on Thursday, October 21 from 12 to 1 pm. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel immediately following Thursday's visitation at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eric's name to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or to Canadian Blood Services by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. Throughout the last 19 weeks of his life, Eric was privileged to receive more than 60 units of blood to help sustain him. The family encourages anyone who is able to consider donating blood.
