It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Edna Briant announces her passing on Friday, November 6, 2009, four days after her 75th birthday. She died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a lengthy battle with Parkinsons.
Edna was born on November 2, 1934 in Paisley, Scotland. She was educated at the John Neilson Institution (J.N.I. High School) and at Jordanhill Training College in Glasgow to become a teacher. She taught in Cochrane Castle Primary School in Johnstone, Scotland and at Doon Public School in Ontario.
Edna was a truly loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by Jim, her husband of 47 years, her two children, Laura and her husband Gary, Douglas and his wife Toshie, and by her many friends. Edna is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, their families and her sister-in-law, Lilian Perkins and the late Alan Perkins. She will be forever cherished by her two grandchildren, Madeleine Ruth and Aidan James.
Edna is predeceased by her mother, Ruth Ewing (nee Purvis), her father James Ewing and her brother Johnny Ewing.
We would like to thank Dr. Brian Huth and the wonderful nursing staff at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre, Dickson House for going above and beyond the call of duty to care for Edna. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and hospital staff on the 5th and 6th floor of St. Marys Hospital for their kindness and compassion during a difficult time.
The family will receive friends at the Erb and Good Funeral Home on 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Tuesday, November 10th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m . There will be a service celebrating Ednas life on Wednesday, November 11th at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 29 Westmount Road South, Waterloo at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow upstairs.
Cremation has already taken place.
Donations to the Parkinsons Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation, where Edna volunteered for years, would be appreciated.
