<h1>Elizabeth Der-Zheng Wang</h1> (Chang) 1912-2009 Passed away peacefully on November 30, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital, at the age of 98. Beloved wife of the late Ju-Yu Chang (1979). Predeceased by 1st younger brother Cheng-Cheng Wang and 2nd younger brother Cheng-Ching Wang. Loving mother of Robert and wife Kathy; Edward and wife Karen; Frank and wife Dora. Dear grandmother to Calvin and wife Jorcelyn; Jennifer and husband Ralph; Charlton and wife Grace; Jeffrey; Andrea; Carolyn; and Amanda. Loving Great-grandmother to Tessa, Hannah, Jason, Ryan, Hope, and Dylan. Born in China in 1912, Elizabeth graduated from the National Central University in China in 1935 with a double degree (BA) in Chinese literature and English literature. Subsequently, she obtained a Masters degree in Literature from the University of North Carolina in 1939 and did some post-graduate studies in Political Science and International Law at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She returned to China in 1940 and was elected to be a member of the Parliament (Legislative Yuan) in 1948 and served in this capacity in both mainland China and Taiwan until her retirement in 1993 after 45 years of dedicated service. While in Taiwan, she was also a professor in English literature at Soochow University. She had published translation work including the book Ladies of the Tang, a collection of famous short stories written in the Tang Dynasty, and two books based on stories from Chinese opera. In 1993, she immigrated to Waterloo and has stayed at Beechwood Manor ever since. Friends are invited to share their memories of Elizabeth with her family during visitation at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Friday, Dec. 11th., 2009, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, Dec. 12th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Ave. East, Waterloo.
