Obituary of John Hendry

John "Jack" Hendry
1924-2009 Jack passed away on November 13, 2009 at the Grand River Hospital in Kitchener at age 85 after courageously, and without complaint, dealing with long-term health issues. His loving wife, Jean, was at his side. Jack was born in 1924 in Lesmahagow, Scotland, and immigrated to Timmins, Ontario in 1957 to find a better life for his wife and two young children. Jack worked in the Hollinger mines for several years before moving to Kitchener in 1963 to work at Canadian Blower and Forge. Jack began a well-earned retirement in 1984 and moved with Jean to Port Franks, ON, to a place on the lake that they loved. Jack was a happy man, who enjoyed his life and his family. Every day was an adventure, shared with great joy with his wife of 59 years, Jean. Jack can be proud of many accomplishments, but perhaps the greatest are the strong bonds of love with Jean and the integrity and character he passed along to his children. Jack leaves behind his beloved wife Jean (Robertson); children Jim (Teresa), Margaret Kinnee (Rob), grandchildren Meghan, Michael, Mark and Andrew; great-grandchild Simon; sister Elizabeth Duffy (William), cousins John Thomson (Nancy), Jackie Wilson, and nephew Jack Hendry (Eileen). Jack was predeceased by his brother James. A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Borch officiating. Cremation with interment in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. The family would like to thank Dr. Bennett and the dedicated home care staff that made it possible for Jack and Jean to remain at home together.
