Alice Luella (Lue) Schmetzer nee Peppler on November 1, 2010, the last surviving member of her family.
Dear wife of the late Harold (Pete) Schmetzer (2008). Loving mother and grandmother of Corinne and Byron Redmond of Waterloo (Kevin and Adam), Joan and Paul Davidson of Fort Nelson, B.C. (Sarah and Heather), Toni and Kelly Veiledal of Kitchener (Jesse and Mitchell), Karen Boucher of Port Hope (Shane, Megan and Dana).
Predeceased by her parents Harry Peppler and Alberta (Prast) Peppler, brothers
Stewart, Max and Stan (who was killed in action during WWII), sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Roberta Peppler, Rhoda Peppler, Arthur and Gertrude Schmetzer, Carl
and Hazel Heldman, a nephew and a niece. Survived by seven nieces.
Lue was born October 15, 1923 in Elma Township and grew up in Listowel. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo, an active member of the ELW and
Altar Guild and served on many committees over the years. Lue was employed at B.F. Goodrich and the Red Cross and was a volunteer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
She served with the C.W.A.C. from 1943 to 1946 and with the militia after WWII.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate Lues life and faith will be on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo with Rev. Becky Klages officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
