Obituary of Jake Sauer

Jake Sauer
SCHELLENBERG 1975- 2007 It is with profound sadness that Jake Sauer's family announces Jake's sudden and untimely death at University Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2007. Jake was 31. Diagnosed with acute leukemia only four days before, Jake died encircled by the love of his family and friends. Jake is survived by his wife, soul-mate and best friend, Alex Jenkins, and two infant children. Alex and Jake delighted in their 20-month-old daughter Stella and were looking forward to the imminent arrival of their second child. Alex gave birth to their second daughter at Victoria Hospital in London the morning of the day Jake died. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his father Lee, his brother Ted, and his sister Kate; he was predeceased by his mother, Helen Louise. He will also be remembered by his step mother Mary and her children Jennifer and Erin as well as “Oma” Agatha Schellenberg, many aunts, uncles and cousins from the Sauer, Shellenberg and Jenkins families. Jake's passing comes at a time when he was at the peak of health. An avid road and mountain cyclist, he was an active member of the Waterloo Cycling Club. He was passionate about traveling with his family and friends to cycling destinations across Canada, Europe, and the United States. Last year at this time he was living with his young family in France, testing his cycling-prowess on the challenging route used by the Tour de France. Jake was a member of K.W. House Churches, part of the Mennonite community in which he was raised. He attended high school at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate and graduated as a computer engineer from the University of Waterloo. During his time at University, Jake enjoyed the many friends he made while he lived in residence at Conrad Grebel University College. Jake will be missed by the many Research In Motion employees who had the opportunity to work with him from the early days of being just a handful of software developers to his contributions in the last year with patents in the legal department.
