FREDERICK (FRED) ALEXANDER LAING passed away peacefully at Belvedere Heights in Parry Sound on March 9, 2009 with his loving wife of 67 years, Eileen, at his bedside.
Born in Waterloo on March 2, 1914 to the late Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Laing. He was predeceased by brothers Harry and Carl Laing, sister Catherine Sadler, daughter Judith Brunton, and son-in-law Jack Pausner.
Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen, daughter Suzanne Pausner, grandsons Jay Pausner (Amanda Warwick), Tim Pausner (Paulette Sopoci), sweet great-granddaughter Emma Pausner; sister Helen Spinks and many special nieces and nephews.
Fred was a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada and worked at Dominion of Canada from 1936 to¬ 1941 and at Economical Insurance Company from 1941 to ¬ 1979. Fred was an active member of several charity organizations over the years; namely the local Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the Canadian Cancer Society. He was also an active member of the Professional & Business Men¹s Club, K-W Probus Club, K-W Philatelic Club, Kitchener Granite Club, and Westmount Golf and Country Club. He belonged to St. Andrew¹s Presbyterian Church and was an elder for over 50 years. Traveling, fishing, gardening, reading, playing sports and bridge with friends were favourite pastimes of his, but most of all he loved being with his family. He will be remembered by all as a kind, loving, gentle man who was devoted to his family and his faith.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Fred with his family during a visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday March 26, 2009, from 12:30pm ¬ 1:30pm. The memorial service by Reverend Mark Lewis will be held in the Erb & Good Chapel at 1:30pm.
