Obituary of David Friesen

<h1>David Friesen</h1> Passed away peacefully March 6, 2008 at the Grand River Hospital where he received excellent care. He was born Dec. 12, 1924 in Welikoknajschesko, Russia to Waldemar and Maria Friesen. In 1926 the family immigrated to Main Centre in southern Saskatchewan where his father started a farm. David enjoyed farm life on the prairies with his two brothers and two sisters. When he was 12, he received Christ as his Saviour, was baptized and became a member of the Main Centre Mennonite Brethren Church. After earning his teaching certificate, he taught in Saskatchewan for 27 years. After that he went into sales and then moved to Waterloo where he worked for Choice Books. He had a winning smile that gave cheer to everyone he met, making him so loveable. Even in his last days, this pleasant smile was apparent to all, including the hospital staff. David was a hard working man and always took good care of his wife and family. He enjoyed sports, music, scrabble and fixing anything that was broken. Throughout his life he was involved in his church, most recently The Dwelling Place. David was predeceased by his parents, an infant son (Arthur) and sister, Irene Toews. David is survived by his loving wife, Lena (nee Bergen); children, Lynette Eulette (Richard), Gerald Friesen (Carol), Verna Friesen, Dwayne Friesen; grandchildren, Jocelyn, Vaughn, Theo, Charity, Adelle, Isaac, Hanako, Tanika, Evaleen, and Julian; brothers, Frank Friesen (Ruth) and Paul Friesen (Ruth) and sister, Ella Gerritsen (Paul). Visitation will be held at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 3-5 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate David’s life and faith will be held at Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church, 245 Lexington Rd., Waterloo, on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. Reception will follow in the Church Hall. In living memory of David a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
