Donna Teigen

Obituary of Donna Teigen

Donna Teigen
1929 - 2009 Our much beloved mother, and Mormor died on June 6, in her 80th year. For all those lives that Donna touched, she was affectionately known as nurse, counselor, hostess, friend, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother. After surviving a stroke in 2002, Donna faced her many health challenges with grace, dignity, and courage. Donna had a true passion for life. Along with her husband Ragnar “Rug”, they were happiest with their home filled with family and friends. She and Rug saw friends as family and family was everything. Donna started her nursing career in 1950, in Seattle, Washington. She met and married her husband there, and when rug received an offer to chair the Old Testament Department at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary they moved to Canada. Donna joined the staff at Waterloo Lutheran University as Coordinator of Health Services. She spent 25 years caring and nurturing staff and students there until her retirement. Although Donna received many awards for her exceptional service to her community, she felt that her greatest achievement was her children and she was their greatest supporter. Donna’s greatest joy happened in 1996 with the arrival of her only grandchild Erik. She was delighted in having shared with him the celebration of his 13th birthday last week. Donna will be greatly missed by her children Christine and Norm, daughter-in-law Carol, grandson Erik, sisters-in-law Arnette, Johnnie and Ann, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Donna’s life was significantly touched by many who preceded her in death: husband Rug, parents Elda and Harold Wallentine, brothers Edwin,Dale and Roger Wallentine and sisters-in-law Gay Wallentine, Dee and Mary Teigen , brothers-in-law Carl Lee, Howard and Dewey Teigen, and son-in-law Ernie Meissner. Norm and Christine would like to thank the staff and management of The Village of Winston Park for their exceptional care and support. A very special thank you to our extended family of Teigens, Wallentines, and Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Delton Glebe, Rev. and Mrs. Robert Langen and their families along with the countless other friends, who have remembered us in their prayers, comforted us with their words, and held us in their arms. The service to celebrate the life of Donna will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 22 Willow Street, Waterloo on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 1 pm. Reception to follow. Remembrances in Donna’s honour may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
