1928 - 2010
Peacefully passed away to be with his Lord after suffering a stroke on June 23, at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 82. He was surrounded by family.
Beloved husband of Elfrieda (nee Mathies) for 60 years. Loving father of Susan Wiens and husband Fred, Judy Biffis and husband John and Paul Poetker and wife Ruth. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Tim (Jen), Sean (Kate), Ashley (Sean), Nick (Shauna), Kris (Kim), Lucas and Danya; also his two great-grandchildren Sophie and Braeden.
Survived by siblings Jake (Pat) Poetker, George (Pat) Poetker, Bernie Poetker, Betty Reimer, and Marg (Jerry) Hunter.
Predeceased by his father Henry; mother Helen (nee Klassen); infant sister Tina; siblings Henry and Anne Poetker, Helen and Peter Rempel, Donna Poetker and brother in-law Bill Reimer.
Peter was a butcher by trade, an avid bowler, a committed member of Glencairn MB Church and faithful member of the Jubilation Male Chorus. A special thank you to Susan and the other fourth floor staff at the Owen Sound Health Centre and to Becky Peters.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Peter with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday June 30, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Breslau Mennonite Church 226 Woolwich St., Breslau, on Friday July 2 at 11 a.m. Pastor Bill Stubbs to officiate. Burial to follow at Breslau Mennonite Cemetery. A reception will take place at the church.
