Obituary of Frances Jamieson

Frances Jamieson
1910 - 2007 On June 2, 2007, Frances passed away at The Sunshine Centre of Luther Village, Waterloo at the age of 97 years. Undaunted and unbowed even by the infirmity of age, she fell asleep surrounded by the love and care of her family. She is lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters - Esther, married to Jack Magathan of Boulder, Colorado; Gloria, married to Douglas Whelan of Newbury, New Hampshire; and Miriam, married to Chris Thomson of Kitchener. Her enthusiasm and spark for life lives on in her grandchildren and their families: Andrew Whelan and wife Jennifer, with children Ava and Sean, of Algonquin, Illinois; Michael Whelan and wife Ruth of Houston Texas; Matthew Thomson and wife Mary, with children Ryan, Ellie and Charlotte, of Allen Texas; and Lisa and husband Mick Grogan, with children Madeleine and Daisy, of Stratford, Ontario. Frances was predeceased by her beloved husband Carl Joseph, with whom she shared a great life and a great love that spanned over 60 years of marriage. Their partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them. Born in Margate, England, Frances grew up in Montreal and married the dashing Carl in the freezing temperatures of Kirkland Lake in 1935. Always active in Church and community she was the first woman elected to the public school board in Kirkland Lake and many years later became a primary school teacher in Burlington, which she loved. In retirement Frances and Carl traveled the world, wintered in California, and enjoyed many games of bridge with good friends. Frances was a woman who prized moral worth, and who valued compassion and humanity. Those who knew her profited from her friendship, generosity of spirit and gracious nature. She was a remarkable woman, and a true lady of her times. A heartfelt thanks is due to the genuine care and love of the staff at The Sunshine Centre of Luther Village, who made Frances’ final days comfortable.
