Obituary of Alvan Hall

Alvan Hall
Alvan (“Al”) Ernest Hall, aged 87, died peacefully at Winston Park Long Term Care residence on Thursday, June 18, 2009. Al was born on May 2, 1922 in Owen Sound, Ontario. As a teenager, he volunteered for the Armed Forces and fought in North Africa and Italy during WWII. After the war he returned home and moved to the Kitchener area and worked until his retirement at B.F. Goodrich. Al met his wife, Barbara, and they married in 1950. During their 59 years of marriage, they travelled, gardened, and enjoyed the company of their family and friends. Over the years, Al played baseball, belonged to various bowling leagues and loved to golf. He loved following professional sports and “talking politics”. He also enjoyed growing vegetables and flowering plants and for a time owned a hobby farm with his brother-in-law Jim. Not having had children of their own, Barb and Al greatly enjoyed their nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. They were always a fun couple to be around. Barb and Al were able to continue living in their own home until May of 2008, at which time, due to failing health they had to move to assisted living arrangements. It was a difficult time for Barb and Al to say good-bye to their long-time family home but they made the move to Winston Park last summer and have appreciated the kindness and attention of the staff there. Barb will continue to reside at Winston Park. At Al’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or memorial service. Al was a generous man in many ways and always supported the local hospitals and other charities. If anyone wishes to make a donation in remembrance of Al, please do so to a charity that is meaningful to you. Donations can be arranged through Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, www.erbgood.com or 519.745.8445.
