<h1>Johannes (John) Hanje</h1> 1912 – 2009 Of Waterloo, passed away, peacefully at Columbia Forest Long-Term Care Centre on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the age of 97. Beloved husband of Trientje (Katie) nee Veenstra for 71 years. Loving father of Klaas (late Marion), Ebel (Lily), Ann (Alan), Henry (Lucy), Joe (Jane) and Corney (April). Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Sonya, Marcel, Stephen, Michael, Neal, Kevin, John, Leia, Andrew, Amy, Johnathan, Jessica and 12 great-grandchildren. His only surviving sibling in the Netherlands is his brother Kees at 102 years of age. Also remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. John brought his family to Canada in 1956 from Drachten, Friesland, Netherlands. After one year in Beachburg, Ontario, the family settled in the Waterloo region. At John’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service in celebration of John’s life will be held for family and friends at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, June 27, 2009 (next Saturday) at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow the service. Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. The family thanks Dr. Kennel and the staff of Columbia Forest Long-Term Care Centre, Eby House for taking good care of John. In living memory of John, a donation will be made by the funeral home to the Trees for Learning Program.
