Keith Rowe

Obituary of Keith Rowe

Keith Rowe
Passed away on June 13, 2008 after bravely enduring a lengthy illness of multiple myeloma. Loving husband of 51 years of Rosemary, proud father of Leslie (Louis Pelletier), Sheilah (Michael Van Gulik) and Rebecca (Robert Dorey), proud grandfather of Evan, Julia, Chloe, Kiersten, Joel and Wolfgang. Born in London, Ontario in 1929, Keith attended universities in Toronto, Wisconsin, and Illinois. After obtaining his PhD he taught pure mathematics at Royal Military College in Kingston before joining the University of Waterloo in 1965. An intellectual man of many interests and enthusiasms, he was a founding member of both the Kingston and Waterloo Film Societies and a past-President of the K-W Granite Badminton Club. Introduced to computers in 1956 when he worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie NY, Keith returned to them in his retirement, devising ranking programs for the Ontario Badminton Association; for this he received a special achievement award from the province. Keith was an enthusiastic amateur architect who found time to design and oversee several local renovation projects. A self-taught pianist, music was a life-long interest surpassed only by his love of the rustic cottage at Parry Sound. The family wishes to thank Drs. MacEachern, Panjwani, and Woolman, as well as the Acute Care Observation Unit nurses and the staff at the Grand River Cancer Centre. As per his request, cremation has already occurred. We invite you to a reception in his honour on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home in the Historic Kuntz House, 171 King Street South, Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
