<h1>Murray Schmitt</h1> B.A.Sc., P. Eng., F.E.I.C. September 30, 1929 – July 9, 2009 Murray passed away peacefully at his home with family on July 9th. Survived by Rosemary, his wife of 55 years, his children Mary Anne, Greta, David and Ellen, sons-in-laws, Kurt and Michel, daughter-in-law Patricia, and grandchildren Kevin, Lara, Melissa, Danielle, Meaghan and Madelyn. Predeceased by his parents Maude &amp; Milton, sister Doris and brother Donald. Murray graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Toronto in 1952. His professional career as a consulting engineer involved municipal projects throughout southern Ontario, and he participated in some of the community’s largest civil infrastructure projects of his time. He was Warden Emeritus of Camp 15 and the last surviving member of the original 7 Wardens. Founded in 1962, Camp 15 oversees the iron ring ceremonies for engineers graduating from the University of Waterloo. One tradition throughout his career and retirement that he treasured was his monthly “Rusty Ring” group luncheons. Murray was a member and elder emeritus of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. His interests were diverse. A lifetime love of music developed from his years as a student of organ and piano. His passion for gardening grew from his father’s properties, his early involvement with Rockway Gardens, and the yearly growing of annuals for his home garden. Murray could and would talk non-stop about engineering, trains, Canadian history, and the east coast. His dogs, Odie and Annie were constant companions particularly during Murray’s illness. A friend of Bill W. for 20 years, this fellowship became an important part of his later life. Through his own challenges, he came to appreciate the struggles of others. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share memories of Murray with his family during visitation to be held at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St S., Waterloo, on Sunday July 12th between 2 to 4 pm &amp; 7 to 9 pm. A private family funeral will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Hamalainen officiating. Internment will be in Woodland Cemetery.
