Passed away suddenly at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the age of 58 years.
Doug was a Product Manager with Home Hardware where he was employed for 38 years. He was an avid golfer and a true Habs fan. He will always be remembered as Papa by his cherished grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Linda, two sons, Jay and his wife Karen and their children Annie Rose and Xander and Chris and his wife Julie and their children Rylie, Nolan and Reed. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Elizabeth), Gerald (Betty), Peter (Carol Ann), Paul (Joanne), Michael (Sharon), and his sisters, Shirley (Stan) Waurechen, Helene (Jerry) Steffler, and Rosemary (Greg) Beaupre, a sister-in-law Dolores Straus and his mother-in-law Betty Hangartner. Doug will also be remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Ron) Habermehl, Shirley Sykes, John (Margaret) Hangartner, Debbie (Steve) Forrester, Barbara (Jon) Conrad, Daryl (John) Prince, Michael (Rachelle) Hangartner, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Christian and Rose Straus, his brother Harold Straus, a sister Betty in infancy and his father-in-law John Hangartner.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Doug with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clements RC Church, 27 King Street West, St. Clements, on Monday, July 14 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Hetu as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Clements Cemetery.
