<h1>Rev Canon David Hartry</h1> 1937 – 2007 Reverend Canon David Hartry GCLJ (E), CMLJ, died peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2007, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. He is survived by his beloved wife Janet (Sinclair) and brother John Hartry of Prescott. He will be lovingly remembered by Janet’s family, John and Evelyn Sinclair, Alasdair and Carol Sinclair, Margaret and Dick James, Sheila Sinclair all of Halifax, Donald and Jill Sinclair of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anne (Smith) and Patrick Hartry. David was born in Halifax, and after attending King’s College Divinity School was assigned his first parish in the Annapolis Valley. He then became parish priest at All Saints Cathedral in Halifax. David was always very active in children’s camping and was President of the Canadian Camping Association and a member of the Ontario Camping Association. He served in the Diocese of Nassau and the Bahamas as the first Youth Officer. In 1975 he went to the Diocese of Huron and was chaplain of Renison College and the University of Waterloo for 17 years. In 1990 he was appointed Regional Dean of Waterloo and in 1991 appointed to the Cathedral Chapter of Canons. He was Rector of St. John the Divine, Arva, from 1992 until his retirement to Kitchener where he provided interim ministry at a number of parishes. David was very active in the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem as Chaplain General of the Order. He also was very active in the Probus Club of Kitchener-Conestoga of which he was Vice-President. Endowed with a whimsical sense of humour, David had a practical view of the workings of faith and impeccable timing in his stories and sermons. His deep spirituality and knowledge of the Christian Church reminded his listener to strive for greater things and nobler goals. Friends are invited to share their memories of David with his family at St. George’s of Forest Hill Anglican Church, 321 Fischer Hallman Road, Kitchener, on Thursday, July 12, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service to celebrate David’s life and faith will be held on Friday, July 13, 2007, 11 am, at St. George’s of Forest Hill Anglican Church, Kitchener. Following the services, David’s cremated remains will be scattered in the gardens of St. George’s Anglican Church.
