Obituary of Ruth Paape

Ruth Paape

1913 - 2007
Passed away, on July 8, 2007 at the age of 93 years.
Cherished husband of the late Charles William Paape (1999). Loving mother of Charles William, Cecelia Ruth, John Conrad and David Allen and her daughter-in-laws Hue and Susan. She derived much joy from her seven grandchildren and most recently, her first great-grandchild.
She was born in Narsingpur, India, the daughter of American missionaries. Most of her childhood was spent in India, including many formative years at The Woodstock School, an English school of mixed foreign and Indian students, in sight of Mount Everest. When she returned to the States she had a high school diploma and an advanced degree in piano from the Royal Conservancy of Music-London.
She taught music professionally and actively volunteered in the health system (Freeport Hospital), The Canadian Federation of University Women and her church, the First Unitarian Congregation of Waterloo. She actively worked for scholarship programs with both CFUW and WLU.
In a number of organizations, she participated in a number of interest groups. Her sense of whimsy is illustrated by her pride at belonging to CFUWs Monday Night Book Group which meets on Wednesday afternoon. That and her recorder (small baroque musical instruments) group were activities she enjoyed thoroughly.
She developed a love of gardening, with particular interest in wild flowers. Even after she moved out of the family home into the Waterloo Heights Retirement Apartments she remained involved by volunteering to help out with the gardening on the grounds. This and volunteering to work with the plants at Freeport Hospital, kept her hands in the earth, right to the end.
