Obituary of Margaret Jane Grigg

Margaret Jane Grigg
1911 - 2010 It is with great sadness and love we say goodbye to Jane. Jane was born July 1, 1911 in Hants County, Nova Scotia to William MacDougall and Rose McPhee. Predeceased by her husband Leonard (1991), her siblings, Phyllis (Lloyd), Aletta (Blair), and Jim (Annie). Also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Hugh and Dorothy McLean, Dave and Barb Grigg and her son-in-law Gary McGeachy. Loving mother to Margaret Rose (Peggy) Breithaupt, George, and Mary Ellen McGeachy. Grandmother to Tim, Krista, Andrew (Chantelle) Breithaupt, Robert (Christine), and Craig (Kathy) McGeachy. Great-grandmother to Zoe, Emmit, Elsie, Megan, Erin, Taite, Aveen, Shannon, Scott, Grace, Duncan, and Owen. Also known as Aunt Jane or Great Aunt Jane to many. Jane was an active member and willing participant of First United Church, Waterloo for all her married life. Over her long full life she was a member of UCW, Women’s Institute Bridgeport, Silver Spoons, home and school in Lexington, plus many other organizations in service to her community. She enjoyed being “the cook” both at home, at summer camps and at Winston Hall Retirement Home. She loved the great out doors and of course her garden and plants. Over the years she enjoyed hosting many outdoor events at her home along the banks of the Grand on Cedarcliffe Dr. She chose to live a simple life and to live by the Golden rule by helping others when in need and not being a bother in anyone. She was extremely independent, had a great sense of humour and loved to tease. With declining eyesight she decided to retire, at 95 years of age to Riverbend Place, Cambridge, again along the banks of the Grand, to complete her final years. Friends are invited to share their memories of Jane with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, July 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 12, at 11 a.m. A reception, followed by interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo will take place immediately following the service. Condolences for the family and donations to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region or the Irene Welsh Fund may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. At this time the family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who were part of Jane’s life, especially to the staff at Riverbend for helping to provide our mom with an opportunity to complete her life with dignity and a sense of belonging. You made a difference.
