After a long and full life, Winnifred died on Monday, July 30, 2007, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. She was in her 102nd year.
She is lovingly remembered by her son John Cliff Gabel and his wife Margaret of Brampton; grandchildren Terry (Mel) Gabel and his wife Brenda, Janet and her husband Bryan Nyhof and Jim Gabel and his wife Kelly and great-grandchildren; Jillian, Kelly, John, Melissa, Lindsay, Candace, Haley and Gregory. Winnifred will also be remembered by members of the McGibbon family; her nieces in Rochester, NY and nephews in San Francisco, CA and Florida.
She was predeceased by her husbands Floyd J. Gabel in 1964 and Walter J. McGibbon in 1979; brothers Donald, Norman and Morris Elmslie; sisters Nora Mulford, Doris Chace and Olive Baldwin and her parents, Ada (Grainger) and Clifford Elmslie.
Winnifred was a life long resident of Kitchener Waterloo. She was a member of First United Church, the Westmount Golf and Country Club and the K-W Granite Club where she was the first woman president of the womens curlers. Winnifred made her home at the Terrace on the Square in Waterloo for the past five years.
The service to celebrate Winnifreds life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. John McCauley, Chaplain of the Terrace on the Square, officiating. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to the Historic Kuntz House for refreshments and a time to visit with the family.
