Obituary of Gordon Blain

Gordon Blain
May 20, 1925 – July 19, 2010 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Gordon Charles Blain in his 85th year at the K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on July 19, 2010. Survived and dearly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Adelle Mary Leis. Adored father of Bonnie (Blair Quinn), Barbara Blain, Brad Blain (Pam) and Paul Blain (Anne). Beloved Popa of Danica (Darrell), Erin, Marika (Michael), Brendan, Stephanie, Harrison and Lillian and cherished Great-Grand Popa to Braylon. Gordon is predeceased by his parents William and Alice Blain, and three of his brothers, George, William, and Frederick, and survived by brothers Clarence and Robert. Although he never spoke much about the war, Dad was a decorated veteran who served proudly during the Second World War in Europe and North Africa as a paratrooper with the First Canadian Paratroops, making over 80 combat jumps. After the war he met his future wife Adelle Mary Leis at Wasaga Beach in 1947 and hence began their life long journey together. A year later they married and within five years they had been blessed with four children. Dad was an exemplary employee for over thirty years with J.M. Schneiders and had previously worked in construction. His forte and passion was woodworking. He built the family carport and sunroom, the recreation room complete with bar and shuffle board and even the family swimming pool! In his retirement years he continued with small woodcraft projects. He was loved and beloved by those who knew him and he certainly had “views” on many issues which he would share with anyone who would listen (or not!) We all love you Dad and will miss you more than words can express. Friends are invited to share their memories of Gordon with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, July 22, from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, July 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. A funeral service to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo will be followed by a reception at the funeral home.
