Passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Freeport Health Centre in Kitchener at the age of 85.
Loving husband of Dorothy Vaughan (nee Franklin). Predeceased by his first wife Dolores Vaughan (nee Butts) in 1979. Devoted father of Elaine (Graham) Jowett, Jim (Sandra) Vaughan, Marilyn (Bob) Koch and Kenneth (Shannon) Vaughan. Lovingly remembered by his step children, Donny (Doris) Lantz and Doug Lantz. Cherished grandfather of Marilyn Jowett, Pamela (Matthew) Opersko, Jason (Joey) Vaughan, Julie Vaughan, Mathew Vaughan, Lindsay (Chris) Gowing, Jordan Koch, Kyle and Eryn Vaughan, Angie (Chris) Culp, Tosha (Nick) Culp, Laura Lantz, Jesse Lantz, and Rochelle Good and great-grandfather of 9 great-grandchildren. Also remembered by his sisters, Shirley (Murray) MacDonald, Ruth (Ron) Schenk, brother, Alex (Marie) Vaughan, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Vaughan.
Predeceased by his brothers, Clarence Vaughan, John (Irene) Vaughan; sisters, Eva (Clayton) Reay and Vera (Gavin) Ray; and by his parents, James and Ena Vaughan.
Alfred worked for the Department of National Defence as a Government Inspector for 37 years until his retirement. He was a long time member of Grand Valley Golf Club and Waterloo Bowling Lanes, and All Saints Anglican Church. He was honored for his many years as a coach for the Waterloo Peewee team. Alfred enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, golfing, fishing and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 -10:45 a.m. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. Reception will immediately follow the service in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. Private family interment in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo at a later time.
