<h1>Stephen Welker</h1> May 16, 1921 – July 15, 2010 After a long battle with Alzheimer's , our father and grandfather joined his wife in heaven just two days before his wedding anniversary and the wedding of his granddaughter. For several years, he was a resident at The Village of Winston Park. He was born in Vranovac, Bosnia, Yugoslavia, and came to Elmira, Ontario at the age of nine. He made his confirmation vow to the Lutheran Church at St. Paul's Elmira on April 14, 1935 and was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until his death. Stephen was predeceased by his wife, Edna Salome (nee Holzworth); his parents, Joseph and Katherine (Lorfing) Welker; his sister, Frieda (Eldon Weber),and his brother, Richard. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Marlene (Allan Haehn), his son Ronald, and the joy of his life, newly married granddaughter Meghan (John Cox), as well as his sister-in-law Shirley Welker. Steve worked in sales at William Knell and Company and was Sales Manager before his retirement. He received two golden hammers for over 50 years in the hardware industry. He was Sunday School Superintendent for 23 years at Redeemer Lutheran Church as well as a lay minister and Executive Director of the Church. He volunteered for the Lutheran Laymen's League and was President of the Elmira Golf Club. Special thanks are extended to the nurses and staff who cared for him at the Village of Winston Park as well as to Rev. Robert Krestick who visited him regularly for prayers. Friends are invited to share their memories of Stephen with his family during visitation at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo from 6 - 9 pm on Wednesday, July 21 and from 1 to 2 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church the next day (Thursday). The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Kevin Walrath at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 78 John Street West, Waterloo, on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2 pm. A reception at the church will follow immediately after the service. Interment will take place at Memory Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, condolences to the family and donations to Redeemer Lutheran Church , the Winston Park Charitable Foundation , or the charity of your choice may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or by calling 519-745-8445. In living memory of Stephen, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
