<h1>Carolina Czarniecki</h1> (nee In’t Zandt) 1918 – 2007 Passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 17, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener after a brief illness while in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Wladyslaw Czarniecki (2000). Loving mother of Julia Sumner of Waterloo, Ontario and Zihuatanejo, Mexico and Karol Czarniecki and his wife Beverly Hiller of Waterloo. Also survived by her sister, Truus Winters of Breda Netherlands and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Venlo, Netherlands in 1918 and studied to be a school teacher. During the Second World War, despite her home being bombed , she served in the Dutch Red Cross by caring for many woundde soldiers and civilians. She was a wartime bride of her husband who has been part of the Polish Liberation Forces in the Netherlands. They emigrated to Canada in 1951 whereupon she became an elementary school teacher at St. John Bosco, St. Dominic Savio and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Schools in Port Colborne, Ontario until her retirement in 1982. She moved to Kitchener with her husband in 1994. Here, her lifelong interest in reading and caring for cats continued. Special thanks to the staff at Victoria Place, Kitchener for their care of both her and her cat Feliz. As well, sincere gratitude to Dr. Dawson and the nursing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Father Reitzel and Brother John, and her family doctor Dr. Bruce. There will be visitation at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Friday January 19, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Louis RC Church, 53 Allen Street East Waterloo on Saturday January 20, 2007 at 10:30 am with Father Bernie Hayes CR as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church’s Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to HopeSpring or Pet Patrol of Waterloo Region would be sincerely appreciated as expressions of sympathy. In living memory of Carolina, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
