After a lengthy illness, John, sole owner and operator of Schippling Bicycle Sales & Service, passed away at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Saturday, January 10, 2009. John was a life-long resident of Kitchener and became involved with Schippling Bicycle Sales & Service at the young age of 16.
Beloved husband of Nora Emma, who predeceased him December 21, 1998. Predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Eleanor, and a brother Joseph. He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Wanda of Welland, Ontario and Olga of Palm Bay, Florida; many nieces and nephews and especially by his niece, Maralyn and her husband, Peter Paolone, his sister-in-law Marie Herter, her daughter Diane and her husband Larry Tanner. John will also be missed by the many close friends and neighbours that became his caregivers in the last six months of his life enabling John to carry on in the bicycle business and remain living in his own home.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S.,Waterloo, on Thursday, January 15 from 7-9 p.m. and will continue on Friday, January 16 from 12-12:45 p.m., with the funeral beginning in the chapel at 1 p.m. Following the service friends are invited to the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. Interment in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the Grand River Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, or St. Johns Lutheran Church, Waterloo and can be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
In living memory of John a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
