Elsie Hentschel passed away peacefully at St. Marys General Hospital of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at age 80.
Proud mother of Paul (Betty DelBianco) of Toronto and Eric (Maria) of Waterloo. Much loved Nana to Ellie and Eric of Toronto and Kirsten, Meredith, and Peter of Waterloo. Sister to Lorne Seifert and Dorothy Kullman of Waterloo. Predeceased by her husband Carl H. Hentschel (1972), her son Richard C. Hentschel (1979), and her brother Richard Seifert and parents Reuben and Hilda (Moser) Seifert.
Elsie was born in Wellesley and was a former employee of Cluett Peabody. Elsie assisted Carl in the family business, Hentschels Furniture and after her husbands death, assumed the leadership to its eventual successful sale. She then enjoyed studying languages at the University of Waterloo. She was a strong supporter of the arts, particularly in the building of the Centre in the Square; K-W Art Gallery and K-W Little Theatre. The family cottage and skiing membership in Craigleith was an integral part of her life. She loved to travel.
Her family is tremendously grateful for the excellent care she recently received on the Chest Unit at St. Marys General Hospital and previously at the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program and on 6N at Grand River Hospital.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Elsie with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 22 Willow Street, Waterloo on Wednesday, February 7 at
2 p.m. with the Rev. Val H. Hennig officiating. A private family interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo at a later date.
