Obituary of Hendrik Kruger

Hendrik Kruger
1919 – 2007 Peacefully passed away at his residence, after a valiant struggle with cancer, on Monday, February 19, 2007. Beloved husband and best friend of Margret for 60 years; loved father of Annemarie, Ralph and Diane, Peter and Joette, Carol and Raymond Gaudet, and Ingrid and Bob McKay; loving Opa of Adam and Sylvia, Ben and Meg, Caleb, Danielle, Jackie and Paul, Richard, Thomas, Kevin, Lauren, Lindsay, Heather, and Great-Opa of 4 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Trudi, Jannemarie, Jack and Ineke, all in Holland. Predeceased by a granddaughter, Jocelyn. After studying tropical agriculture at the Landbouw-school in Deventer Holland, Hank was drafted into the Dutch Army at the start of WWII. His dream of agricultural studies was realized in 1945 when he accepted a position in Indonesia, as assistant manager of a rubber plantation. His wife soon joined him, but after 4 years, the volatile political situation forced them to return to Holland. They then immigrated to Canada in 1951 and worked on a farm, but Hank soon realized that he needed a career change, so he picked up his boyhood hobby and started years of home study in electronics, while working in TV and Radio. In 1958, Hank accepted a position in the engineering department at Raytheon Canada in Waterloo, which included overseas travel. Hank retired after 26 years and has since remained a resident of Waterloo. Hank was deeply involved as a member with both Knox Presbyterian and Waterloo North Presbyterian church, as an elder and a choir member. He enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica and also enjoyed woodworking, square-dancing, travelling, camping, wine-making, sketching, writing and telling wonderful stories of his life experiences. He was a member of the Torch Club and the K-W Little Theatre where he won many acting awards. His many friends and family members have always been touched by his great warmth and wonderful sense of humour, and he will be very much missed by all who knew him. Thank-you to all of the support that Hank received during his illness, with a special thank-you to Dr. Donna Ward, and nurses Anne, Ellen and Trisha. Friends are invited to share their memories of Hank with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Hank’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, February 24,2007, at 11 a.m. with Rev.
