Obituary of William Alguire

William "Bill" Alguire

1935 2009
After a lengthy battle with prostate and bone cancer, Bill passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at age 74.
Son of the late Lloyd and Edna Alguire of St. Catharines, Bill will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Carol. Loving father of John (Louise Parkinson), Heather (Mike Clarke), and Brian, and Carols daughters, Janet (Murray Way), Susan (Kevin OConnor) and Lynda (Bill McCauley). Fourteen very special young people will sorely miss Grandpas presence in their lives: Lucy and Harriet Alguire; Jennifer, Alison and Lisa Clarke; Josh Alguire; Sheldon and Devon Way; Mitchell, Sydney and Alex Conrad; Rebecca, Michael and Joey McCauley. Bill is also survived by his sister, Shirley (Bob Alguire), two nieces, a nephew, many cousins and his loving mother-in-law, Ann Hayden.
Bill graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1958 in Honours Business Administration and received his CA designation in 1962. He retired from Electrohome in 1997 after a 34-year career in accounting and financial management. Bill was a long time, active member and Elder of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kitchener and Knox Presbyterian Church in Meaford. From Cub and Scout leader in St. Catharines to Past-President of the Rotary Club of Meaford, Bills life was spent serving others. He was currently a member of the Kitchener Rotary Club. His love of the arts led him to serve as Board Chair of the Georgian Theatre Festival in Meaford for several years and he used his vocal talent to sing in his various church choirs throughout his life.
At Bills request, cremation has already taken place. Visitation will be at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 2-4 and 7 9 p.m. A service to celebrate Bills life and faith will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 54 Queen St. N., Kitchener, on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will follow in Iona Hall at the Church.
Bill and Carol extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to their wonderful children and many friends who have been so supportive during this long journey. We also thank everyone who sent cards, flowers, messages of encouragement and who remembered us in prayer. Special thanks is also extended to Dr. Keleher, Dr. Moolman, Dr. Ward and the compassionate and caring nurses of UT3 West at Freeport. We also thank the nurses from Team 6 of Care Partners, a special support worker from ParaMed and a wonderful volunteer from Hospice of Waterloo Region. These individuals who worked so hard to keep Bill comfortable will never be forgotten.
