<h1>Arthur Schmitt</h1> 1919 – 2008 Arthur George Schmitt, of Kitchener, died on December 27, 2008, at Trinity Village Care Centre after battling Lewisbody Dementia and failing health for many years. He was in his 90th year. Art was a life-long resident of Kitchener. He graduated from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School (KCI). He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Newfoundland for most of the Second World War. He married Frances Marie Weichel on July 9, 1944. Art was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kitchener and was involved in many activities within his church. He worked for many years as Production Manager at the L. McBrine Company in Kitchener before being appointed Sheriff of Waterloo County on December 16, 1963. He held this position until his retirement in February 1984. Art is survived by his two sons, Bob and his wife Jean of Kitchener, and Jim and his friend Judy Furlong of Elmira; by his two grandchildren, Rosanne and her husband Derek of London and Andrew and his wife Marcia of Stouffville; by his great grand-daughter Gracie of London; by his sisters-in-law Margrete Schmitt of Kitchener and Dorothy Schmitt of Waterloo. Predeceased by his wife Marie of Kitchener, by his parents Bill and Edna Schmitt of Kitchener, by his brothers Carl and Roy Schmitt of Kitchener, his sister Esther Fischer of Kitchener and his grandson Roger Schmitt. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St S., Waterloo, on Monday, December 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 322 East Avenue, Kitchener, on Tuesday December 30, at 2 pm with Rev. Roland Syens officiating. Private family interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada – The Lamin Kargbo Family Educational Fund, Holy Cross Lutheran Church Sunday School, or Trinity Village Care Centre Gathering Place. Art’s family is grateful to the staff at Trinity Village Care Centre in Kitchener, all of whom helped to make him comfortable and happy during his final years. God bless you all.
