1922 - 2007
Passed away, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on December 14, 2007 at the age of 85 years.
Son of the late Gordon and Annie (Fleet) Gowing. Beloved husband of 61 years to Evelyn. Devoted father of Darwin and his wife Betty of Kingston, and Heather Longpre and her husband Mark of Sackville, New Brunswick. Grandfather of Kelly Potvin and her husband Gerry, Corrie Longpre and his fiance Karen, David Longpre and his wife Jenny and Mary Longpre. Great-grandfather of Oliver, Vita and Ivan Longpre. Also survived by his sisters-in-law Hildreth Kerr and Edna Cooke; brother -in -law Irvin Hould and many nieces and nephews.
Ellwyn proudly served his country overseas during WWII with the Canadian Forces Artillery Division and continued his commitment as a long time member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, Waterloo. Ellwnyn was a 32 plus year dedicated employee of Uniroyal in Kitchener. Even though his family was his number one priority, Ellwyn still managed to see time spent on the less fortunate by actively participating in bowling for children with Cerebral Palsy and learning disabilities as well as playing hockey and coaching minor hockey here in town. Ellwyns enthusiasm and genuine attitude will be sadly missed all who knew him.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Ellwyn with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King Street South in Waterloo on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. A Legion service will precede visiting at 11:30 am. The memorial service to celebrate Ellwyns life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Bernie Hayes C.R. as celebrant.
Following the service, friends are invited to join the family in the Funeral Home's Fireside Reception Room for refreshments and a time to visit.
Interment will occur in Glen Allan Cemetery, Glen Allen at a later date.
