1923-2009
Passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at St. Marys General Hospital, age 86 years.
Loving husband of Erika (Mantey) for 58 years.
Survived by brother Howard and Margarete and sister-in-law Dorothy; nephews Gerald and Tom, nieces Audrey, Karen, Beth and Bills wife Cathy.
Predeceased by parents Fred and Anna Knipfel, brothers Harold, Alfred, John and Walter; sisters-in-law Dorothy, Evelyn, Irene and Betty; nephews William and Paul and niece Bonnie Lynn.
Fred was born and raised in Petersburg. He was a dairy farmer and owner of Knipfels Picnic Grounds. He liked gardening, wood cutting and traveling to many countries, including Brazil and a visit with a sponsored child. Also supported many charities; a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Laymens League and for 35 years, Secretary Treasurer of Petersburg Cemetery. Will be sadly missed by his dear wife and extended family.
Freds family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St. S., Waterloo from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate his life and faith will take place on Thursday, December 17 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Petersburg. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
