Barry was born April 24, 1933, and passed away on December 12, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Valerie; his sons, Stephen (Judy), Scott and Craig; his grandchildren Lyric, Kaitlind, Jesse, Jade and Joey; his sister Jo-Ann Batista and his niece Kelly.
He began his radio career at CKBB in Barrie when it first went on the air while he was in high school. Upon leaving school he went to Stratford, then served in the Canadian Armed Forces Ordinance Corps from 1952-57. Moving up in radio involves moving around, so Barry made stops in Barrie, London, St. John, N.B., Orillia and finally CHYM in Kitchener-Waterloo. Giving back to his industry, he served as Vice-President in 1980, and President in 1981, of the Radio Television News Directors Association.
As a community supporter, Barry worked with the Waterloo Siskins Hockey Club from 1967 to 1981, the Waterloo Tigers Sr. Lacrosse Club, as founding secretary Lakeshore Village Recreation Association, Waterloo Community Services Board from 1970-72, Conestoga College Advisory Committee, member of the Press Gallery of Ontario, member Pollution Probe, Kitchener Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, and Waterloo Snowmobile Association.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Barry with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, December 16, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Barrys life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 1 p.m. Reception will follow service. Cremation has taken place.
