<h1>James Reimer</h1> REIMER, A. James Allen James Reimer died at home on August 28, 2010 at the age of 68. He was the husband of Margaret Loewen Reimer and father of Christina (Mike), Thomas (Shoshanna) and Micah (Erin); and Opa (grandpa) to Evie, Christof, Safi and Wesley. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Douglas, Gwen, Rudy and Lois and their families; and Margaret’s siblings: Gerald, Ken, Karen and their families; as well as father-in-law Al Loewen. Born on August 10, 1942, Jim grew up in Altona, Manitoba. He graduated from Canadian Mennonite Bible College in 1963, and the University of Manitoba in 1971 (BA in History and Philosophy). He spent a year at Union Theological Seminary in New York before completing graduate degrees at the University of Toronto (MA in 1974 and PhD in 1983). He was a professor of theology at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo, and at the Toronto School of Theology where he helped found the Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre in 1991. Jim’s academic project was to define Mennonite theology within the broader Christian tradition. He also engaged in dialogue with communist scholars from Eastern Europe and Muslims from Iran. One of his chief passions was German theology during the Hitler era. Jim was a warm-hearted man with many deep personal relationships and a love for the church. Favourite activities were cooking, fishing in Algonquin Park with his kids, and singing high tenor in the bluegrass gospel group Five-on-the-Floor. He will be missed. Jim’s family will receive friends at Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at First United Church, corner of William and King St., Waterloo, on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to the Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre or the Anne and Al Loewen Scholarship Fund at Canadian Mennonite University.
