Obituary of Edward Allan Peters

Edward Allan Peters
1945 – 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ed Peters on Wednesday, August 26, 2009. He died peacefully at home surrounded by those he loved. He was an integral part of his family and community and will be missed greatly by his wife Nell (Nowak), son Matthew Peters and wife Sarah, daughter Kara Peters Unrau and husband Kevin. Ed was a good father and cherished his wife and family deeply. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren thoroughly — Grayson and Macy, Micah and Lucas will miss him very much. He is survived by his mother Melita Peters, and siblings Robert Peters (Ollie), sister-in-law Sylvia Peters, Maryanne Twigg (Robert), and John Peters (Rebecca), sister-in-law Goldie Pankratz (Jim), brother-in-law Ed Nowak (Karen), and parents-in-law Anna and Victor Nowak and his many cherished nieces and nephews. Ed Peters is predeceased by his father Frank C. Peters, and his brother Gerry Peters. Ed was a natural born teacher, having spent 7 years in Zambia, Africa and at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. For the last 20 years, Ed worked at the Canadian Bible Society where he continued to teach and help establish the Institute for Computer Assisted Publishing. He enjoyed travelling the world through his work, with his wife Nell, and with their good friends Harry and Elly Dyck. An avid reader he was a wealth of knowledge about theology, philosophy, geography, bird watching and hiking trails in Southern Ontario. He cherished engaging life’s big questions and at the same time enjoyed challenging others not to take themselves too seriously. He cared deeply for his friends and will be missed by many including long time friends from his Care Group and members of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. Special thanks to the Palliative Care team for their personal, loving and attentive care including Dr. Donna Ward, Karen, Faith, Sherry, Birgit, Mary, Deb, and to Barb, Matt, Shelly, and Chris at Medigas. Friends are invited to share their memories of Ed with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Monday, August, 31, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm..
