<h1>Muriel Barrieau</h1> “Tud” 1919-2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel, the matriarch of our family, in her ninety-first year peacefully, after complications from surgery, at the KW Health Center of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on Friday August 21, 2009. Cherished partner and best friend of Fred Roth of Kitchener, Loving Mother to Kenneth (Elaine) of Hudson Qc. Cherished grandmother of Kimberley (James McKee) of Kitchener and Beverley (Marc Felton) of St.Lazare Qc. Most of all, their Nana will be missed by her loving great grand children, Jake, Holly and Josh. Muriel also leaves to mourn, her sister and life long friend Jean Black (the late Nathan) of New Hazelton BC., as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Pre-deceased by her loving husband Arnold “Pat “Barrieau of Lachine Qc., and her Brother Lester (the late Hazel) of Lachine. Muriel was born in Kitchener on April 1, 1919 to Edith Solomon and moved as a young girl with her family to Alberta. The family then moved east seeking employment with her then stepfather, Grant Johnston during the great depression to Lachine Qc. She was a proud, active, energetic, enthusiastic, lady of many talents learned through her life experiences. In her younger years she loved to dance and figure skate. Muriel was an accomplished hair stylist in Montreal and later worked for Food Services at Wilfred Laurier University where she made sure her “football boys” always had plenty to eat. Later in life she became a self taught computer wizz keeping in touch with family and friends. Muriel was an active member of KW Seniors Curling and Lawn Bowling Clubs. She loved to knit, quilt, and was a “crochetière exceptionelle”. Most of all, she loved to cook for her family and friends. Her meat, apple pies and homemade bread will never be forgotten.Sunday night dinners and special occasions at “Nana and Papa’s Boarding House (Beds Always Available ;))” will be sadly missed by us all. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of both hospitals for the care and compassion extended to Muriel during her hospitalization. Honoring the personal wishes of Muriel cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place in Hudson at a later date.
