<h1>Karl Schmitt</h1> May 27, 1938 – August 1, 2007 After a lengthy, courageous and inspirational battle with cancer Karl passed away peacefully at Freeport Health Centre Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Pat Schmitt (nee Silverthorne). Loving father of Kristine (Tony) of Toronto, Todd (Darlene) of Kitchener and Jennifer (Jeff) of Toronto. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Thomas and Olivia. Karl will be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Ruby Silverthorne, his brothers , Harold (Rosemary), Ed (Joyce), Alf, Paul (Ginny) and Bernie. Loving brother-in-law of Judy and Gil Wallis, Don and Eileen Silverthorne and Jo-Anne and Dennis Sokoloski. Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Eileen (Kloepfer) Schmitt, father-in-law, Floyd Silverthorne, sister Angela Hunt and sister-in-law, Rita Schmitt. Karl worked at K-W Food Services for 34 years and managed The Waterloo Hotel prior to retiring in 2005. He was an avid cyclist and reader, enjoyed Dixieland jazz, and thoroughly enjoyed his weekly crib league and euchre club. Friends are invited to share their memories of Karl with his family during visitation at the Erb &amp; Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday, August 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Christian funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, August 4th at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Bugbee from Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating. Following the funeral service, interment will take place in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Reception to celebrate Karl’s life will follow.
