Obituary of Christopher Walraven

Christopher Walraven

1922-2009
We give thanks to a husband, father, papa, brother and friend who was dearly loved and will be forever missed.
Chris was gently and peacefully called home by God on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at age 87.
Smiles will form on the faces of family members as each recalls his sense of humour, his appreciation for his many blessings and his commitment to family and friends.
Along with his beloved wife Wilhelmine (Klumper) of 57 years, Chris was a devoted father to Ted and Sharon Walraven of Vancouver BC, Geraldine and Kevin Dow of Milan OH, and Betty Ann and Geoffery Malleck of Kitchener. Dad, your guiding hand on our shoulders will remain with us forever. Papa was much loved by his six grandchildren: Brandon and Julia Malleck along with Michelle, Christine, Benjamin and Andrew Dow. Each holds a special memory of a unique love and special relationship. Dear brother of Bill Walraven and his wife Theresa and his sisters, Hannie, and Bep and her husband John.
Chris is predeceased by his parents Betty and Theodore, brothers, Laurent, Theo, John, and sister, Corrie and her husband Peter.
Chris led his life following the word of God. He freely but humbly gave of his time, talents and treasures thus securing the respect of those near him. To his faith community he was an active volunteer. He will also be remembered for his various contributions to the Waterloo Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Chris was treated with compassion and tenderness by Dr. Carrothers and the professional staff at The Westmount for which the family is forever grateful.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Chris with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. p.m. with Parish Prayers at 8:45. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo, on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Edward Sheridan as Celebrant.
Condolences for the family and donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to Carmel of St. Joseph may be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
In living memory of Chris, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
