Obituary of Amon Horst

 

1920 - 2007

 

Amon died at his home in New Hamburg, surrounded by the love and support of his family, on Friday, April 13, 2007, at the age of 86.

He was the beloved husband and best friend of Hilda Horst, who predeceased him April 1, 2007. Loving father of Dana Currie and her partner Mike Bott of Kitchener, Brian and his wife Sharon of Toronto, Darryl of Kitchener, Cathy and her husband Alan MacDonald of Ottawa, Peter and his wife Lisa of Kitchener and Susan and her husband Guy Cameron of Kitchener. Proud and loving grandfather of Rebecca and her husband Jeff Hadaway, Sarah Currie, Katy Horst, Alexandra Seebach, Scott MacDonald, Lauren, Danielle and Emily Horst, Jacob and Quinn Cameron. Amon will be lovingly remembered by his sisters and brothers, Mary Shantz, Barbara Horst, Elam and his wife Myrtle Horst, Martha and her husband Roy Koch, Emma Brubacher and Melvin and his wife Leeta Horst.

Predeceased by his parents Lovina (Bauman) and Menno Horst; a daughter, Nancy Heather in infancy; grandson, Adam Horst; sisters Lena Frey and Verna Waters and brother David Horst.

Amon served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy on Convoy Duty during WW II crossing the North Atlantic twenty-four times. He was a proud member for forty-one years of the Royal Canadian Legion New Hamburg Branch 532 and was retired from Uniroyal where he worked for thirty-eight years. Amon enjoyed baseball, especially his favourite team, the Cleveland Indians.

Amon will be remembered for his love of telling stories and his expressive opinions.

Friends are invited to bring and share their special photographs and memories of Amon with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private family burial will take place at Wilmot Mennonite Cemetery on Tuesday morning. The funeral service to celebrate Amon’s life and faith will be held in the chapel of the funeral home, on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Gary Horst officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family in the funeral home’s Fireside Reception Room for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

In living memory of Amon, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
