Obituary of John Frim

After a long and valiant battle with cancer, John died in the early hours of Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was 81. John is survived by his beloved wife Susan (Gellner) and two children who loved and respected him; Erika and her husband Reinhard Schmidt of Kitchener and John Frim of Waterloo. Frim Opa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Devin Plomp of Kitchener and Daniel Schmidt and his friend Christi Gross of Toronto.. John will be fondly remembered by his sisters-and brothers-in-law, Gertrude Frim, Georgia Frim, Mary and John Klein, Andy and Rosemarie Gellner and John Gellner. John had a wide circle of friends, extended family and nieces and nephews who were very special to him. He was predeceased by his parents, Katharina (Fritsch) and Georg Frim; brothers Georg and Michael Frim and mother and father-in-law Susanna and Andreas Gellner. Before his retirement, John was president of Eberhard & Frim Paving. Prior to Eberhard and Frim, he had been employed at Russ Howald Construction. He was a member of the Transylvania Club for 60 years, a member of the Transylvania Hofbrau Band for 53 years, a member of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, a past member of the Waterloo Regional Police Band and a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. John was well known for collecting "things", some of which he never used. He loved the outdoors which included hunting, fishing, golfing, time at the trailer and at the Ontario Saxon Hunters and Fishers. Friends are invited to share their memories of John with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo today from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Queen Street North in Kitchener on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11 am with Rev. Mark Ehlebracht officiating. Interment will follow in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Following the committal service at the cemetery, friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Alpine Club for lunch and a time to visit.
