Dear Pat, Barbara, Wendy and Gary and family, It was my wish to be present at the memorial service for Marjorie but, unfortunately, another death in our family has placed an obstacle in my way. I spent 7 years (1950-1957) in Winterbourne school and 4 of those with Marjorie as my teacher. I always remember her as a strong, no-nonsense type of teacher but open to her students' experiencing new things. I can still see her standing up in front of us students and reading to us after lunch from a book - we always looked forward to that. Maybe that's where I got my love of books. Each year, Marjorie organized a special bus trip in May or June to some exotic place such as Niagara Falls, Goderich, London. Everyone from our small village was so excited to be going on a "trip", which for some of us, was a once a year experience. Christmas was different in those far off days and one thing that Marjorie was sure to do was the Christmas concert - a break in routine - but requiring on her part a lot of patience and determination. She got me to sing my first solo, I think, which I remember as "The Strawberry Roan" and had many of us involved in the Kiwanis Festival. I still continue to love singing due in some way to Marjorie. I still remember the famous plays in which "Wildcat Willie" was the main character. So many good memories took place in that Presbyterian church hall, which no longer exists except in our hearts. I remember one of my favourite activities she did with us in art - that of drawing cartoon characters - an activity I took into my years of teaching French for 31 years. Those years that I spent with Marjorie were simpler times, it seems, playing "Andy, Andy, over the shanty", "Prisoner's base", "Pump, pump, pullaway" and the baseball games with Conestoga, West Montrose, Victoria, and Bloomingdale. Marjorie gave all of us a great grounding in our formative years in so many areas from cursive writing to history, English, math and a myriad of other subjects. Thank you, Marjorie, for the years you dedicated to forming young people and not giving up on many of us who probably gave you a few white hairs and made you wonder whether it was worth all the effort. We never would have said it to you as youngsters, but you were a model teacher and we loved you for what you stood for. God bless you and your family at this time.

Sincere thoughts of sympathy are headed your way. You must have so many happy memories to comfort you as do all those touched by Marjorie through the years. I first got to know Marjorie at Winterbourne School in the mid 60s when she was most supportive of the new teacher on staff. Dorothy Dahm
