Doris Darling

Obituary of Doris Darling

Darling, Doris K 1915- 2011 Passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on February 6, 2011 at the age of 95; although her youthful appearance and approach to life caused many to suspect she wasn't being truthful about her age. She was the beloved wife and best friend of John Darling (2006) for 67 years. She was the loving mother of Dianne of Waterloo and Douglas and his wife Joyce Wilson of Mannheim. Doris is lovingly remembered by her brother Lloyd Geil and his wife Dannie of London, Ontario and their daughters Andrea and Susan. Doris gave freely of her time and was very active in the community. She was a long time member of the IODE where she served in various executive positions locally, provincially and nationally. Doris was honoured by being awarded a Life Membership in each of the Primary, Municipal and Provincial Chapters to which she belonged. She was a past president of the K-W Jaycettes, a member of the K-W Granite Club and a founding member of the Women's Probus Club of Kitchener-Westmount. She belonged to Trinity United Church and was active in the Trinity Mr. And Mrs. Club. The staff and children of John Darling Public School were always special to her and she took pleasure in joining them for many activities and events. Doris enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, visiting with friends, spending time with her family and summers at the cottage. After a long and full life she leaves behind many happy memories and will be greatly missed. Special thanks are extended to those who provided comfort and care to Doris and her family during recent years. At Doris' request cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share their memories of Doris with her family during visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 1-1:45 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Doris' life will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jack Paleczny officiating. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. Private family interment will follow at a later date at Williamsburg Cemetery. In Doris' memory, donations to the St. Mary's Cardiac Care Centre, Ontario Arthritis Research or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com. In living memory of Doris, a tree will be planted through the Trees For Learning Program by the funeral home.
