Edith was not only our Grade 13 English teacher for the first half of the year, she was a mentor and friend to our group of exceptional students at FHCI. I remember we were devastated when she went on leave-of-absence part way through the year, as we were just getting to know her and to gel as a group. She was a gifted teacher, in control of the class but generous in allowing us to be spirited and lively in discussion and the sharing of ideas. She introduced us to Canadian literary icons like Northrop Frye and EJ Pratt and hosted us to informal discussions in her home. Edith was one of those memorable teachers who you carry with you through life. My thoughts go out to her family and many friends and colleagues.
