Obituary of Dorothy Dunkley
DUNKLEY, Dorothy Gloria (nee Desjardins)
Passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregivers at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener, on March 5, 2011 in her 77th year.
Beloved wife of 52 years of Ronald Dunkley, loving mother of Susan and her partner Darryl Porter of Peterborough and of Michelle and her husband Joe of Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Cherished grandmother of Richard McKnight, Robert McKnight and William McCarthy. Devoted sister to Ron, Claude (deceased), and Bob Desjardins.
Originally from Kapuskasing, Dorothy earned her degree from Queen's University, and kept in close contact with fellow students throughout her life. During and after a career as a teacher of languages and physical education, Dorothy was an activist in the fight against Parkinson's Disease, a director of the May Court Club of Kitchener-Waterloo, and a driving force behind the French Immersion Program in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
Visiting hours Tuesday, March 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St S., Waterloo. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 23 Water St N., Kitchener with The Rev. Canon Christopher Pratt officiating. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the Sunnyside Home staff for their tender loving care of Dorothy.
