I met Neil in 2004 where we were on a journey together at Teen Challenge Farm. Neil always made me smile especially when he would give the loudest laugh from his belly and the late night cook offs at TC that he set up for us. He was a true friend at that time and inspired me to continue on. You will always be in my heart brother.

I am so sorry for the passing of Neil. I have so many mixed emotions and its hard to believe. I had the privilege of knowing Neil and spending time with him while at Teen Challenge. Neil was always positive and each day seemed to be a celebration to him. One of the really fond memories I have of him is being on the Teen Challenge Alberta Choir Tour in 2005. We were at the Hope Mission out reach center in Edmonton and he expressed love and care for the people there. Neil had a good heart that was felt by many. If there is anything I can do please contact me at my email that's listed. I know that Neil is with Jesus touring heaven and enjoying a banquet with God & the angles. Remember God loves Neil to & that's why Neil is with Him. My family will be praying for your family and we pray for God's comfort and continued love in you life.

Alexis,
I was at your partents wedding. It was the most amazing wedding I had ever been to. It was such a happy occasion. Your parents could not stop smiling as you can see in all of the photos. They made me laugh, they made me cry and they made me very happy just to know them both. Take good care of your mom as she is a very special lady. I hope to get to know you as you get older.

Dear Alexis,

Dear Shawna and Alexis, I am so sad to hear of your loss and wish I was closer to you two to offer more than just words of comfort and condolences. Your family has been my family for as long as I can remember and to lose any member is such a terrible grief, especially, as your Mom said, of one so vibrant and loving. Those two exact words, vibrant and loving, and Neil seem to be inextricably related in my mind. My memories of Neil were those of a man who had found his measure of love and happiness with you. When you and Neil came out west for Christmas it was the first time I had really met Neil. I remember observing Neil's mannerisms, speech and disposition and thinking to myself, “Who does he remind me of?” The thought was incessant and consumed me when I was around him - and I'm sure he caught me staring at him a little hard and a little focused several times, which I'm sure he just brushed off as the protective and suspect demeanor of a cousin. You may not have noticed this internal struggle (I chose to suffer silently) but it was there, and it wasn't until watching a Muppet's Christmas Carol that the answer finally came … … … Father Christmas! Yes, it all made sense! His jovial and easy-going nature, his kindness and slowness to become angry or solemn, it all fit. But the physical attributes were uncanny. Besides these, and some others and don't have many memories of Neil, but I do remember his sincerity, willingness and desire to connect with your side of the family and some of your history while he was here. He seemed to me, a man very much in love with you and his future family. Again, a cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. You know our family is here for you, in thoughts and prayers, with comfort and support. If there is anything we can do for you from out west just let us know. We love you both very much, Joel and the Urquhart family

No more tears, no more sadness, no more sickness, no more pain. Neil is now in the arms of Jesus. If Neil could send a message to us now, we’re sure he would say, “Don’t grieve for me. Instead, celebrate – I’m free from all the worries of the world! I’m with Jesus!” He would go on to warn each one of us to make sure our names are also written in the Lamb’s Book of Life – we need to make sure we’re ready. Neil would want to continue telling everyone what Jesus did to pay the price for his and our sins so that we too can be sure that we will one day go to heaven and live with Jesus for eternity. Thank you Shawna for your sacrificial love for Neil. You have loved him and supported Neil in so many ways, and you’re a brilliant Mother too. We know Neil is at peace. We will continue to lift you and Alexis up to the throne of grace – for God’s love, comfort, strength and peace to fill you in the days ahead. The Lord is your Maker and your husband. He will take care of both of you. We love you both very much. Bev and Chris

Dear Shawna I will always treasure the memories I have of Neil. He had such energy and such passion and amazed us by getting excited about the most mundane things (web optimisation is not exciting for most people). He was a great guy to have around and everyone who knew him at Teen Challenge London (England) will be sad to hear of his passing. We take comfort in his great love for the Lord Jesus who had saved him in this life and who he trusted to be his redemption in the life to come. With our love, Jason Henry & staff at Teen Challenge London.

Dear Shawna and Alexis; I was very sad to hear of the passing of Neil. At least we know that he is at home with his Lord. John 14:1-4 , Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. Alexis,
your Daddy loved you so much. You were a source of great joy for him. One of my fondest memories of your Daddy was the look of joy he had on his face when he handed you to me in your Mommy's hospital room the day after you were born. Like most new babies you were so wiggly and you quickly squirmed your way out of your warm blankets. Thinking I knew a thing or two about babies I attempted to rewrap you with little success. Your Daddy rescued you and expertly rewrapped you like he had been doing it his whole life. Watching his gently manner, I knew right then that you two would have a special relationship. He was proud of you and you should be proud of him.
Love Sue, Adam & Parker Campbell

As others have said, Neil had a way of being 'larger than life'... During my time working with Neil he was the jovial voice heard on the other end of the phone: always quick to encourage, support, share a kind word and perhaps a joke or two. Neil was quick to lend a hand when needed and was a blessing to those in his life. His smile had a way of lighting up a room and nothing made him smile more than his beautiful Shawna and Daddy's precious little girl, Alexis! To Alexis & Shawna.. we pray that God's peace, that passes all understanding would envelop you both like a warm hug, holding you tight. That His strength would sustain you in weariness and strife. And that your heart and soul would sing... 'it is well, it is well with my soul'. Be blessed and know how deeply you are loved and cared for. Let those around you be a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, arms to hug you, friendship when you are lonely and fond memories to share and remember. During my first week at TC London, I was invited over to Neil and Shawna's first house in London, ON. Can't remember the street it was on, but I do remember the sweet fireplace it had. Anyways, the warm, sense of the Holy Spirit, love, compassion and welcoming hearts that Neil and Shawna displayed that one night of bible study was fundamental in my development as a believer in Christ. I remember how Neil, Chris Lowes, and Pinky would always joke and have a grand ol' time which seemed to illuminate the office at times and enlighten my soul.

My favourite memory of Neil is when he was visiting London TC about 5 years ago, I believe on break from SSM TC. I had this Asian pear bigger than a grapefruit. The two of us hung out in the staff room eating it together for about an hour, just talking. Great time. Neil had a short life, but he had a very blessed, rich life with all the good people who were in it with him. That is a testimony to Neil's friendship.

Shawna and Alexis: My thoughts and prayers are with you both at such a difficult time. Although it may seem that nothing can stop such heartache and pain; have faith and believe that God will lift you up and pull you through. It doesn't seem fair that a family so full of love and faith are hit with such tragedy. Neil was always so happy and full of life when he visited the office. His smile would light up a room. I still remember when you both came by with Alexis after her birth. Neil was so proud to be a Daddy, he just kept smiling and said what a wonderful gift she was to your family. God bless you Shawna.
