Obituary of Ethel Spike
Born May 19, 1949, at K-W hospital to Dorthy Rae Ziegler and Walter Carl Ziegler.
Wife and life partner to Charles Edward Spike. In September of 1972, and after four weeks of dating Ethel and Ed decided that they were right for each other. Wed on June 23, 1973.
Missed by Daughter Alyson Edith Rae Spike, Kapuskasing, Ontario; Daughter Melissa Eddie Evelyn Spike and Son, Jonathan Edward Clifford Carl Spike, Waterloo, Ontario.
Older brother Roy William Ziegler and younger sister Ruth Ida Wassing.
Aunt Hilda Ziegler, nee:Farmer, wife to the late Uncle Harry Ziegler.
Brother-in-law Robert Spike and companion Karen Horan, of Toronto.
Ethel, graduated from Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School in 1968.
There upon starting in 1968 to work at the University of Waterloo, for just less than 43 years. Ethel and Ed met where they both started in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Ethel just received an award for 30 years of administrative service with the Mechanical and Mechatronics Department, of University of Waterloo.
Ethel and Ed designed and built their own house in Waterloo. Ethel helped with many tasks; tree cutting, design, painting, tarring, carpentry, plaster-boarding, electrical, mason assistant and accounting. The gardening and house decorating have been ongoing since the move-in May 01, 1978.
Trips to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Cuba were a change in pace from the support Ethel gave to the family; for Schooling, Soccer, Softball, Judo, Scouting and First Robotics. Ethel was a beginning Judoka in Judo.
Ethel's piano playing was secondary to the effort put forth to raise three children while working full time.
Ethel's cheer and smiles were sent from God. May He now hold her while she waits for us!
Friends are invited to share their memories of Ethel with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 4:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home.
