Dear Ann's Family, I was shocked today as I came upon the signage at the corner of William and Westmount, where I learned of Ann's sudden passing. I have watched over Empire School children for the past ten years, and Ann has been a big part of our daily ventures, both before and after school. She has sent many children, and their families, to school safely, and was well thought of appreciated by this community. She was also very respected by my own three children as they made their way through the 6th grade. Ann was such a lovely person. Please know that she will be sincerely missed by all.

To The Family of Ann I have been substituting as the crossing guard for Ann in the past weeks at Westmount and William. I would like to convey to you the concern and respect the parents and children had for Ann. I am truly sorry for your loss and sorry I never really had a chance to get to know Ann, but from all accounts she was a highly thought of individual.

My earliest memory of Ann happens to also be one of my earliest and fondest memories. As a little boy of 4 yrs old, our family would join Larry, Ann, Christopher, Collin and their dog Friday at Mosport International Speedway in Bowmanville, Ontario. My brother and I played with their boys between races, Friday would play with our dog and the adults spent long hours talking about ‘adult stuff’ in folding chairs in the sun or around the campfire at night. These days passed so easily. At the time these days typified the fun of summer and the excitement of racing. Over time they have come to symbolize much more. Those were perfect moments. Getting to know friends that would be as close as family, relaxing in the pure enjoyment of peace, comfort and happiness. This is the place I return to when I see Ann. I picture her at ease, on a breezy, sunny, summer day, surrounded by family and friends wearing a smirk or a smile that seems to say, ‘yep, we’ve got it right’.
