Dear Kim and family: I'm very sorry for your loss. I am an old friend of David's. David was in my class in grade 3 at Frankland Public School. We became friends after he did a judo flip on me. We used to hang out at his house and so did our younger brothers (Stephen and Stephen). I joined cubs and scouts with David. We used to share a tent on the camping and canoe trips to the Scout camp in Haliburton. He would not go to sleep without making sure every mosquito in the tent was killed. We were on the swim team at Riverdale together for a couple of years. It was when Riverdale had the reunion that I tried to re-connect with David. I called him last year and he said he was interested in joining us for a pub night. That is how I found about his death. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. Mark.

Dave and I met back in the early 90's when he worked with UAP. From then on, he was always a good friend, and very enjoyable company. He always had a cheerful countenance, never negative. we would often meet and "do lunch" at the Mongolian. He will be sadly missed. My deepest condolences. Dave Binnie

Our Condolences to the Kitagawa Family. Dave was our PPG rep here in the KW/Guelph area. he was a great guy that always went to bat for us. we took big steps with him as our rep. its hard to believe he won't be there to back us any longer, although he has left us in great position, which I'm sure was his goal. Dave has left us with a great impression and will never be forgotten. the Kitagawa family must be very proud of him.

Dave always joked that he was born half an hour late and that he's never been able to catch up (thus explaining his usual tardiness). It is therefore sadly paradoxical that he left us so early.
While never one in a hurry, Dave's speed and trajectory were always consistent and true. Steady. Even keeled.
In a morally challenged world, Dave was one of those people who could be counted on for helping a friend move, drag in a dock, roof a house or solve a nagging computer problem without hesitation.
His talent for capturing special milestones in picture and video meshed perfectly with Kim's natural gift for poetry, leading to epic tributes to birthdays and cottaging.
His laugh was deep, sincere and infectious. Things were better with Dave around.
For years we played baseball together. Warm-up featured Dave's relaxed demeanor. His throws seemed to leave his hand without drama, saunter across the diamond then suddenly land in your glove like a high speed block of cement. I could never figure out how such a slow looking delivery imparted so much energy. Such was Dave: It may not have looked like he was going that fast but he was always going way faster than you thought. We shivered together in the cold rains of May standing in the outfield where only a week prior we stood in blazing heat. For season after season we were unsure of whether or not his legs would ever fully heal from repeated slides into second. But what a gamer! Dave was always up for an evening with friends.
At what was probably Perry's wedding dinner, I commented that my new suit had dummy pockets in it and that I couldn't open them. Dave lamented my situation and wondered "Then where are you going to put the buns and butter?" He could always bring a slime to my face.
Dave and Kim always had fabulous spreads of food at their parties. At his last Superbowl party, he even ran a pilot test some weeks before to try out a turkey deep fryer. Since he felt the turkey was too dry to be served at a party, he opted for a couple different flavours of chicken wings instead. Who else would do that? At New Year's, a similarly elaborate buffet would be laid out but it would always feature Japanese noodles in recognition of his heritage.
Dave, Rich and I also shared an interest in automobile racing. At one New Year's party we lamented not being Formula One drivers and commented that we should at least experience racing from the seat of a kart. Surprisingly, the girls consented to the idea and before they could change theirs minds we had driven to Barrie through a blinding snowstorm and returned with one in the back of the minivan. For three seasons or so our go kart team, RaDaR Racing, was a going concern. The acronym was never really defined but whether RaDaR stood for Rich and Dave and Rob Racing or Rob and Dave and Rich Racing, one thing for sure was that Dave was at the heart of it. We drove what turned out to be an ancient kart, with an under-powered motor (that had long been dropped from the rules) on the world's smallest racing budget and fought to keep from being lapped. Each week the next one of us would take the kart home and tinker in preparation of the next event. One of the local kart suppliers would write "Larry, Mo and Curly racing" on our receipts.
One of my yearly highlights was journeying to Montreal for the Formula1 race. Kim, Dave, Rich, Karen, Jan and myself would pack into a minivan and stay in interesting B&Bs. We enjoyed each other's company while dining in Olde Montreal, downtown or even right out on the B&B's street-side patio (waited on by the restaurant across the pedestrian mall). There were memorable post-midnight trips to Swartz's Deli for smoked meat and bread for tomorrow's race, or just to be part of the throngs of people flowing down Rue St. Denis or Rue Peel. The girls would go shopping or sight seeing and the boys would battle the F1 fans clogging the subways and islands.
Dave, I miss you already buddy. New Year's, the Superbowl and the weekend of the Montreal GP will never be the same but I'll always reflect warmly on the memories you helped create.

Family of Dave I am very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Dave was my territorial representative for the Goderich and Exeter area's. It truly was my pleasure to have Dave up to see our customer's to assist with our mutual business. Dave's solid knowledge and easy to listen to approach certainly gained my respect and the respect of his customers. While Dave worked with many of us over the last few years there was never a time when Dave would not be able to help. Dave I know was a remarkable man and will be missed by many associates in the automotive refinish business. My sincere condolences. Regards Gary Kloepfer/Ideal Supply Company Goderich

Dear Kim, Matthew and extended family: I am truly sorry for your loss. I had the privilege to work with Dave for nearly three years at PPG Canada. It was a privilege not only because of the professionalism and excellence Dave brought to his job but because Dave always made it a better day for those he touched. I will miss Dave's selflessness, wit, laughter, thoughtful discussions and his other talents, such as producing great short films for everyone's entertainment. I can imagine that your family has some excellent home movies. The entire Kitagawa family will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you.
