Wendy Boakes

Obituary of Wendy J. Boakes

Wendy passed away at St. Mary's General Hospital on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the age of 62. Beloved wife of Michael Boakes for 38 years. Loving mother of Amanda and her partner Damian and grandmother of Emma. Dear sister of Eva Saari, Allison Ethier, Anna Costello, Tim Fraser, Barry Fraser and Chris Fraser. Predeceased by her parents, T. Roy Fraser and Alice (nee Polmateer) and her brothers Tom, Gary and Jim. Formerly a primary school teacher, Wendy was retired. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, crafts and many other pursuits; however, her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her granddaughter, Emma. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener for their excellent care during Wendy's recent illness and during her extended stay in 2009 due to pulmonary fibrosis. The family would also like to thank the amazing doctors and staff in the lung transplant program at Toronto General Hospital. We always felt blessed to have a world-class facility so close to home. Honouring Wendy's wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Wendy during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 3 - 3:45 p.m. followed by the memorial service to celebrate her life in the chapel of the funeral home at 4:00 p.m., Monday. A reception will immediately follow the service in the funeral home's Fireside Reception Room. In lieu of flowers, condolences and memorial donations to the Transplantation Program, Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
