James DeMeis

Obituary of James DeMeis

It is with great Sadness that the Family of former Sudbury resident, James E. (Jimmy) DeMeis announces his passing. Early Thursday morning April 21st, 2011 at the youthful age of 78 years Jimmy succumbed to the ravages of Cancer in St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener. Born February 10th 1933 to parents Antonio and Teresa DeMeis formerly of Supino Italy, Jimmy resided in Sudbury, Ontario and on July 17th 1954 asked Marie ( nee Myers ) also from Sudbury to be his Wife. Four wonderful children resulted from this loving and devoted fifty seven years of Marriage. Jim worked at Brinks Security for 17 years retiring in 1991 and also worked at Palm Dairy prior to that. In 1996, Jimmy and Marie moved to Southern Ontario and after much consideration decided to make Kitchener their home. Since 2002 while living contentedly in Kitchener, many special friendships developed all the while maintaining those earlier and close relationships they were missing from back home in Sudbury. Jimmy was a very talented and enthusiastic hockey player and was fortunate to have played with the Sudbury Junior A Wolves, B Division between 1950 and 1952. Being born to Italian immigrant parents also enabled him to represent Italy and play hockey in Milan Italy in 1953 where he and his teammates went on to win the prized Gold Medal. For many years Jimmy also enjoyed playing Wednesday evening Oldtimer's Hockey at the Sudbury Arena where he wore # 9 on his jersey. Second to hockey, golf was his passion. Jimmy went golfing as often as he could and enjoyed working part time as a starter at Streetsville Glen Golf Course in Mississauga and also at Rockway Golf Course in Kitchener for 10 years. Jimmy was a " Lefty " and enjoyed watching and learning from his favourite " Lefty " Phil Mickelson. Jimmy will be lovingly remembered by his Wife and Best Friend of almost 57 years, Marie and his four children, Daughters: Darlene Avram ( Husband Danny ), residing in Bolton, Ontario: Linda MacDonald ( Friend J. P. ), residing in Sudbury, Ontario: Gail Proulx ( Husband Richard ) residing in Sarnia, Ontario: and Son: Tony ( Wife Carolyn ) residing in Newmarket, Ontario. Jim will be deeply missed by seven Grandchildren: Matthew, Amanda, Tina, Stephanie, Christine ( Husband Adam ), Jennifer and Natalie and two Great Granddaughters Maya and Bella.
